These rings are produced in hot rolling pearlitic spheroidal cast iron and they are used for both hot and cold bending of steel sheets, stainless steel too, up to a thickness of 80 cm.

 

The use of cast iron as an alternative to steel for this kind of uses guarantees a better surface quality (it does not shingle) and it can be applied to both hot and cold applications. During the various processing steps, the different peripheral speed between the bottom to be bent and the forming ring creates a strong friction in the steel forming ring (steel-steel contact); on the other hand, the cast iron ring self-lubricates (cast-iron contact), thus generating less friction; this means less wear on the forming ring and less energy consumption too.
